The Kenya government recently introduced the Digital Payments Platform, which is based on eCitizen. This payment channel will enable Kenyans pay for all government services via digital means.
According to a gazette notice, this new service has been integrated with all available digital payment platforms in Kenya for ease and accessibility. The payment platforms include mobile money services such as M-PESA, T-Kash, and Airtel Money.
What is Ecitizen?
eCitizen is is a platform that enables users to access and pay for government services. Some of the services include business registration, application and renewal of licences, registration of births and deaths among others. Various counties have also listed their services on eCitizen. It is accessed at http://ecitizen.go.ke, which has now become the official Government Digital Payments platform.
This means that all government services shall be made through eCitizen. Kenyans will be identified by their national ID while foreigners can access the service using their foreign IDs or Passports. Companies, institutions, and organizations will use their official registration number.
The official Kenya Government Pay Bill number is 222222. The official Government of Kenya short code number is 222. Lastly, the official Government of Kenya USSD number is 2222.
We hope this will drive efficiency, eliminate corruption and grow government revenues. Again the success of this program depends mainly on the staff in government offices.
